Pelvic Health

Physiotherapy can help with:

Stress incontinence
Urgency (rushing to the toilet)
Prolapse
Pelvic pain
Painful intercourse
Bladder Pain Syndrome (Interstitial Cystitis)

One in three women suffer from incontinence

Between 30% – 50% of women have a vaginal prolapse and many have pain with intimacy. These are conditions that can be treated with specialist physiotherapy. Physiotherapy is considered effective first-line treatment for conditions such as incontinence or prolapse according to guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Often these conditions are related to the pelvic floor muscles which can be weak, too tight or be poorly controlled. The pelvic floor muscles can be affected through lack of use, after childbirth or even from hormonal changes related to pregnancy & menopause.

Whilst it’s common to have these kinds of symptoms, it’s never normal! Women often wait years before getting help, and lose out on doing the things they love.

Doing pelvic floor exercises are usually helpful, but not if you’ve got poor technique or your muscles are already tight. A full assessment with a specialist pelvic health physiotherapist is your first step to getting back your control.
